How to care for a wooden wick
Wooden wicks are often more sensitive to length and melt-pool conditions than cotton wicks. Correct care supports a steady, even burn.
Keep it short
Before lighting, gently remove charred wood with a wick trimmer or your fingers while the candle is cold. Often only three to five millimetres remain, but follow the maker's guidance.
Light across the wick
Hold the flame across the full width of the wooden wick for several seconds. If only one corner catches, it may go out again.
If the wick is drowning
Extinguish the candle and let it cool. Only then carefully remove a little excess solid wax around the wick. Never pour out hot wax or use paper to absorb it near a flame.
